Project Overview

This exterior renovation in Vail was completed by Scottish Home Improvements to address aging materials and improve fire resilience while maintaining a timeless mountain aesthetic. The home’s original siding was over 40 years old and beginning to crack, creating both visual and performance concerns. The homeowners wanted an update that felt classic and understated—nothing overly bold—while meeting Vail’s strict design standards and prioritizing wildfire protection.

Scope of Work

The deteriorating siding was removed and replaced with James Hardie Cobblestone lap siding, paired with Hardie® fascia and soffit for durability in alpine conditions. A HardieWrap® weather barrier was installed to enhance moisture control and overall performance. The project also included the installation of two Pella Lifestyle Series windows. Because the desired trim color was not available as a factory finish, all trim was custom field-painted to achieve the exact look the homeowners wanted. In addition, existing decks were upgraded and refinished using Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck® for long-lasting protection.

Design & Installation Process

The design direction focused on a classic mountain aesthetic that would blend naturally into the Vail landscape. Subtle, neutral tones were selected to keep the exterior refined and timeless, while a rich espresso board-and-batten accent added warmth and visual depth. Throughout the project, special attention was given to meeting Vail’s strict architectural and fire-safety requirements, ensuring all materials and design elements aligned with local standards. Precision installation and custom finishing were essential to delivering both compliance and craftsmanship.
