This is Part One of a two part series about how to shop for siding for your home. Read Part Two for the whole story!
So you’ve already done the research and heard all the wonderful stories about James Hardie Fiber Cement Siding. What comes next? We want to take you through the process of purchasing new siding for your home so you can not only feel comfortable taking the next steps, but also so that you can have a great experience with this home improvement.
Deciding Which Siding Company is Right for Your Home
The first thing you want to do when you’re looking at this project is visit The Better Business Bureau (BBB) website. The BBB rates companies anywhere from A+ to F based on a comprehensive set of standards. You only want to get quotes for your home from companies rated A+. If you have a friend or neighbor that can refer you to the company that recently installed their siding, you can always look them up as well. BBB also keeps track of how many complaints a company has received, so be sure to take note of a business’s prior problems.
Getting a Siding Estimate
Most homeowners today will get three or four estimates on their siding job before deciding on which business to use. We recommend that during this process, you visit each company in their offices. You can really determine whether or not you are truly going to feel comfortable with a company by visiting their location, and taking note of how they present themselves to you. Is the office clean and organized? Are the employees friendly and helpful? As a customer, you want to know that a company genuinely cares about both having your business, and the first impression that they give you. In the end, most people can agree that they want to give their business to a company and people that they sincerely trust.
Another important reason to visit the actual location of a company is so that you can get a feel for how established they are as a business. When you’re looking at a 10 to 20 thousand dollar investment like siding on your home, you want to be sure that you can always contact representatives of the company if you need to, and to make sure they will be able to fulfill your warranty, should you have any problems.
Narrowing Down the Choices
After you’ve visited a few companies, and hopefully narrowed down your choices, making the final decision depends on a few important factors. Think about which company made you feel more comfortable, and who you have the most confidence in.
