Scottish Home Improvement Vinyl Siding

One of the first steps to residing your home is choosing what type of siding material is best for you.  There are various brands and styles on the market, and it’s important to select a product that fits your needs for style and protection, as well as your budget.

If your siding is due for an update, there are three main types of siding available today; cedar, vinyl, and fiber cement.  While options such as Masonite and wood are still available, they are often found to be outdated in terms of technology and protection, so most homeowners stray from these traditional options that you may, in fact, actually be replacing.

Siding Material Options

We want to take you through the most common options for homeowners remodeling today.  This is one of the most important choices that you make for your siding project, and we want to make sure you know your options.

  • Cedar siding:  Cedar is often chosen because of the aesthetic look, and because cedar is a strong wood.  While this option looks fantastic, it brings a great deal of maintenance to the table; everything from frequent refinishing to water damage and rotting.  Cedar is also a fairly expensive choices for Denver homeowners, and with the added maintenance, many choose to sidestep the authentic look for a more practical choice.
  • Vinyl siding: Vinyl is a beautiful and affordable option for your home.  It offers excellent insulation, and can be made to look like wood if you prefer the look of a wood grain.  While you won’t have to worry about rotting or repainting with vinyl, it can be damaged by hail, or the rare occurrence of extreme heat.
  • Fiber cement siding: Fiber cement is a fairly new product, but it works great with the ever-changing climates of Colorado. For homeowners who prefer the look of cedar siding, you can get a fiber cement product with less maintenance that is made to replicate real cedar siding.  Speaking of maintenance, fiber cement has virtually none.  It won’t be damaged by hail, extreme heat or cold, it doesn’t need to be repainted, and it still looks great.  This is a mid-priced option, but still offers exceptional protection and value.
